Plant is a living organism of the kind exemplified by trees, shrubs, herbs, grasses, ferns, and mosses, typically growing in a permanent site, absorbing water and inorganic substances through its roots, and synthesizing nutrients in its leaves by photosynthesis using the green pigment chlorophyll.

In this case, living in unnatural environment. In despite of it's unnatural environment, these plants are surviving, and they have tendency to outlast that unnatural environment built by human hand. The force of nature. Obvious example in the present are the plants which are conquering abandoned city and the area of Chernobyl.

Photographs are intentionally shot with direct flash so those plants look artificially, which directly relate to their environmental denial. The seeming lack of composition, the apparent snapshot style quality in many of these photographs deliberately develop specific patterns of images which seem familiar to everyone.

Embalmed Pet Shop

The concept is the practice of embalming the dead through the photographs and bringing them back to a life, process that is and will be possible by present photographic technology and future cloning technology, which is easy to explain.

Photographic image is both, in fact the thing represented and eternal thing. In Ancient Egypt eternal life was the main focus of all ancient Egyptians, which meant preserving the body forever, so they practiced embalming the dead. With it they aimed against death, saw eternal survival as depending on the continued existence of the corporeal body. Egyptian culture believed the body was home in the afterlife to a person's Ka and Ba, without which it would be condemned to eternal wandering. So, photography is providing a defense against the passage of time, it satisfied a basic psychological need in man, for death is but the victory of time. To preserve, artificially, his bodily appearance is to snatch it from the flow of time, to stow it away neatly, so to speak, in the hold of life.

At present time, with technique called spectrophotometry, for example, we can make measurements of some distant astronomical object based on its photograph, and we can determine physical properties of that object, such as its temperature or chemical composition. Knowing that technique, in future it’ll be easy to determine DNA structure of photographed, in this case, animal, which mean that animal could be cloned and relived. Hopefully, these photographs will last forever, so one day, spirits of those photographically embalmed animals will have bodies to reunite again with.

After all, ask yourself, what is it? Predicting or describing? A prediction is a reference to something that has not happened yet. A description, in this case, could be taken as a reference to something that has been described before anybody else.

Milos Dumic was born in 1978 in Tuzla (Bosnia). Lived in Bijeljina (Bosnia), Belgrade (Serbia), New York City (USA), Limoges (France), Lugano (Switzerland), Wien (Austria).

Went to St. Joseph High School in New York City and graduated in 1996. Studied at St. John’s University in New York City. Studied Photography at Academy of Arts in Belgrade and graduated in 2009. B.A. in Fine Art Photography.

Now lives in Belgrade and works as university lecturer, lecturing art courses of Photography. He is also currently enrolled in Master studies in Photography. Milos Dumic worked on numerous photographic projects. Has been exhibiting in various group and solo exhibitions.
