The first jury session for the "Dimitrije Bašičević Mangelos" Award 2022 is over!

19 candidates applied for this year's open call: Sanja Anđelković Pavle Banović, Kemil Bekteši, Milica Dukić, Dea Džanković, Anđela Đermanović, Stanko Gagrčin, Stefan Ilić, Milan Kujundžić, Angelina Marković, Aleksandra Mećava, Biljana Milenković, Martina Petrović, Emilija Radojičić, Sonja Radaković, Sanja Solunac, Dunja Stanojević, Marija Šević, Miloš Vučićević.

This year jury for the “Dimitrije Bašičević Mangelos" Award: Vladimir Bjeličić (freelance curator and performer, Belgrade), Lenka Đorojević (artist and member of Institute for contemporary art Podgorica; Ljubljana), Teodora Jeremić (art historian and freelance curator, Belgrade), Jelena Micić (artist and winner of Dimitrije Bašičević Mangelos Award in 2021, artistic director of WIENWOCHE Festival) and Dejan Vasić (art critic, freelance curator and editor for the visual art program, Center for Cultural Decontamination, Belgrade).

Considering the quality of the applications of this year's candidates and the level of completeness of critical and aesthetic reflections in their artistic work, the jury selected four finalists for this year.

The second jury session as well interview with the finalists will take place in Remont gallery after 10^th of July 2022 and at the opening of the finalists' exhibition, the jury will announce the award winner.

In cooperation with Residency Unlimited (New York) and supported by the Trust for Mutual Understanding (New York), the Dimitrije Bašičević Mangelos Award is organized annually. The award is a two-month residency stay at Residency Unlimited in New York and a solo exhibition in Belgrade upon return. The Award, which carries the name of Dimitrije Bašičević Mangelos, a significant artist and art historian and one of the founders of conceptual art practice in former Yugoslavia, will be awarded for the twenty-first time this year.

Finalists

Pavle Banović (1998, Belgrade) finished bachelor studies at the Department of New Media, Faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade. He spent his third year of studies in Ljubljana at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design. He was a member of the young artistic collective Institute for Applause, as well as the current project called COMMONS - imagining the institution of the future. He participated in exhibitions Leaving the Safe Mode (2018) at the Goethe Institute in Belgrade, Given Mood (2019) in SKC Kragujevac, Hard Pressed (2020) in KC Magacin in Belgrade as well as Incredible (im) possibilities (2021) Contemporary gallery in Zrenjanin. He had his first solo exhibition Moving spaces (2021) in the P74 gallery in Ljubljana. He won the Telekom Srbija award (2018) as well as the IFCA (2020) in Maribor.

Kemil Bekteši (1997, Belgrade) started his education in Belgrade and finished it in Sarajevo. Bekteši has a master's degree at the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo. He spent part of his studies in Portugal, at the FBAUP in Porto, where he studied contemporary art. He was awarded the Golden Badge of the University of Sarajevo for bachelor's and master's studies, which makes him one of the best students at the University of Sarajevo. He was named the best student of the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo, bachelor and master's studies. He is interested in contemporary methods of artistic practice, so he describes his artistic work as multimedial. He very often deals with topics related to identity and nationality. In 2020, he became the youngest finalist of the ZVONO Award (YVAA). He is the co-founder and artistic director of the Manifesto Gallery of Contemporary Art in Sarajevo. He has participated in several solo and group exhibitions. He currently lives in Sarajevo.

Dea Džanković (1991, Novi Pazar) obtained an MA in Visual arts at Sabanci university in Istanbul (2016), and has since developed her artistic practice in Berlin and later Belgrade in various media such as installation, photography, performance, video and poetry writing. She is currently in the process of obtaining a second MA in New Media at the faculty of Fine Arts in Belgrade. Her works have been exhibited in solo and group shows, most notably at Blackbox exhibition at the Mikser festival in Belgrade (2020 and 2021), The Youth Biennial (2021) in Belgrade, Art Weekend (2021) in Belgrade, new members of ULUS exhibition at the Cvijeta Zuzoić art pavilion, inFLUEenca exhibition at the gallery Podroom (2022). When it comes to solo shows, her most notable works are performance pieces, such as Short Treatise on Brutality (2021) at DC Krov, Theorem (2022) at Dom Omladine, and Burn/Out (2022) performed across several public locations in Belgrade. She has been inducted into ULUS, new media section, as of 2022.

Milan Kujundžić (1997, Foča) graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Trebinje, Department of Painting in the class of Professor Savo Peković. MA at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad, Department of New Art Media, mentor Professor Stevan Kojić. Has exhibited in several collective exhibitions and eight solo exhibitions in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Croatia. Participated in colonies and workshops in the region and abroad, and some of the most important are the film workshops "ACTive" in Skopje / Ulcinj and the film workshop "Fighting stigma through film" in London. Awarded for best student of 2019 department of Painting and special recognition at Internation student bienale Osijek/Split 2021. Milan’s artistic process occupies multiple media such as installation, object, video, drawing, sound, and process installations.
